What is the RunFest Grand Prix Race?
RunFest Grand Prix Race is a competitive 1 km‑loop running event in Kuala Lumpur, held 26–28 March 2027 at KL Wellness City, Bukit Jalil. It borrows the Formula 1 weekend format: runners qualify in 5 km waves by day, and the fastest line up on a static starting grid for 3 km finals as the sun goes down. It is organised by Unikorn Events Sdn Bhd as part of Kuala Lumpur RunFest.
What is SEKIDEN?
SEKIDEN is our Short-Ekiden — a 3-person team relay on the 1 km circuit. Each runner completes 3 laps (3 km) before passing the tasuki (the traditional Ekiden sash) to the next runner in the exchange zone, for 9 km in total. There is no baton. Categories are SEKIDEN Men, SEKIDEN Women and SEKIDEN Mix (maximum 2 men per team). Entry is per team, from RM209 at Super Early Bird.
How does the Soloist qualifying and finals format work?
Soloists run a 5 km open race (5 laps) in their wave. Your 5 km time sets your grid position. The top 10 finishers go to the 3 km Speed Final and positions 11–20 go to the 3 km Sub Final, both starting from a static grid. Speed Final points equal finish position (P1 = 1 point); Sub Final points equal finish position plus 50.
How long does it take to run a 5 km race?
Most recreational runners finish 5 km in 25–40 minutes; competitive runners aiming for the Speed Final will be well under 20 minutes. The Grand Prix Race circuit is a flat 1 km urban loop, so it suits fast times. You do not need to make the finals to take part — the 5 km qualifying wave is a full race in itself.
Who can enter, and what are the age categories?
Soloist categories are Men's Open and Women's Open (18–39) and Men's Veteran and Women's Veteran (40+). SEKIDEN teams are open to any age combination of three adults. Age category is based on your age on race day, 28 March 2027.
